At Northeast Swing Classic, our mission is to foster an environment where everyone is treated with dignity, courtesy, and respect. We celebrate the unique contributions each individual brings to our community, recognizing that our differences strengthen and inspire us. As event organizers, we are committed to creating a space where courage, creativity, and a shared passion for West Coast Swing come together.
We strive to cultivate patience, promote fresh perspectives, and encourage genuine appreciation for one another. By embracing this dance and working together, we believe our community can grow stronger, more united, and more dedicated to supporting each other.
Joe Mahoney(Papajoe) discovered his love for dance in 1995 through country western dancing and transitioned into West Coast Swing a few years later. Early in his journey, he competed on the circuit and achieved the status of All-Star dancer. His passion for the dance community expanded into DJing, where he became a sought-after talent at national events.
Fifteen years ago, Joe’s mission shifted toward fostering a thriving dance community in Boston. He co-founded a weekly dance night that started with just eight attendees and has since grown to host 175–200 dancers each week, offering a welcoming space for college students and adults alike. Through his work, Joe also provided opportunities for others to learn how to teach, DJ, and share in the passion of this dynamic dance.
Additionally, Joe organizes weekend events in collaboration with other partners, featuring world-class West Coast Swing professionals that provide students with workshops, intensives and private lessons.
Over the past couple of years, the West Coast Swing community has experienced a surge of newcomers eager to learn the dance. Recognizing this demand, Joe has introduced beginner workshops and bootcamps, while also creating opportunities to bridge the gap between beginner and advanced beginner dancers in the Greater Boston area. This innovative approach has fostered a growing group of enthusiastic dancers in the region.
